I have a IKEA IVAR Shelving unit and a bunch of books, CDs etc on it. The shelves get dusty pretty fast. Sad Previously, I would cover them with some cheap shawls to keep out the dust. I was clearing my old curtains & bedsheets over the weekend and I found a set of full length tab top curtains I had and I turned them into this:

Recycled from my 8 yr old tab top full length curtains . ๐Ÿ˜€ The cover prevents dusty shelves & hides messiness! :P:D

Recycling is fun & good for the environment!

Fun with my new glue gun = new denim hemp coasters April 2, 2010

I saw these hemp coarding coasters on Make It and Love It and because I just bought my new toy, a $5 glue gun & a roll of hemp string from the $2 shop. :D, I gave it a try.

I didn’t make it with cork though, I made it with left over denim from my piano bench booties project. ๐Ÿ˜€

pics were taken with my mobile phone camera, so they’re not the best. ๐Ÿ˜›

1. Cut out the denim in a circle. I used a CD to trace the shape.

2. Serge or use the zig zag stitch for the edges of the denim circle.

3. Glue the hemp string with the hot glue gun, starting from the edges to the centre.

4. Repeat step 3. (ie. 2 layers of hemp .. it’ll make the coaster sturdy) and you’re done!

The hemp becomes the bottom while the denim’s the top of the coaster. ๐Ÿ˜› The denim will absorb the water from condensation, which is what I really need.

And this allowed me to practice my glue-gunning skills. LOL. Fast & fun project! ๐Ÿ˜€

Inspired by this tutorial over at Praiseworthy, I decided to refashion my own old A-line skirt into a new tote bag. So here it is!

I got it done in in 5 hours or so. ๐Ÿ˜€

I’m liking this refashioning business! HEHE. It’s super fun! ๐Ÿ˜€

today, i’m wearing a “new” skirt. i refashioned it from an old pair of marks & spencer pants I got on sale a few years ago at like $29.00. I wore it for a while but unfortunately the material was too thick and I also altered too short. ๐Ÿ˜› it was also a little too big and baggy.

As the weather’s been really hot these few days and I wanted to wear a skirt instead of jeans. so last night, I decided to make this pair of old pants into a skirt. ๐Ÿ˜€ i’m afraid i didn’t take the “making in progress” pics, but here’s the skirt! ๐Ÿ˜€

it was hard trying to take a pic of my big fat butt. ๐Ÿ˜›

Edit (12 March 2010): I have another pair of pants I want to refashion into a skirt. So maybe I’ll take pics to show the process of doing so then. ๐Ÿ˜€

Last month, I made this neck pillow for my mom with this pattern. Mom loves it ๐Ÿ˜€ she uses it alot , especially when watching tv.

Last night, I used the left over fabric to update my old mousepad at work. ๐Ÿ˜€ I used this method.

I also made an apron! recycled from a piece of $1 tablecloth I had and also the fabric from a freebie shopping bag we get alot these days from merchants. I came up with this on my own. Now I won’t get wet when I do the dishes! ๐Ÿ˜›

It feels great to sew things I can use!
